IT Providers Get Help with PCI DSS Compliance

Charlotte, NC – Calyptix Security Corp., a leading provider of network security and management solutions for small and medium-size businesses, today announced a new report to help IT service providers understand the regulations that surround credit card and debit card security.

The report, titled PCI DSS for IT Providers: 4 steps for compliance with clients, is a free download that puts the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) into context for managed service providers (MSPs) and value-added resellers (VARs).

“Many of our MSP and VAR partners have questions about PCI DSS. Our report introduces the guidelines and shows a four-step process they can use to protect themselves and their clients. We hope it lends confidence to use PCI DSS as a way to find new clients and expand services,” said Ben Yarbrough, President, Calyptix Security.

PCI DSS is a set of regulations put in place by the payment card industry to protect cardholder data. Anyone who stores, processes, or transmits cardholder data has to comply with the rules. Many of the rules apply to network security and management, which makes them especially important for IT service providers.

Penalties for failing to comply with the rules and suffering a data breach can be severe.  Fines, legal fees, audits, forensic investigations, and higher transaction fees are just some of the ways that costs can mount after a breach. The result can be a multi-million-dollar loss for a larger firm or the end of business for a smaller firm.

PCI DSS was created by the PCI Security Standard Council, formed in 2006 by the five largest payment card brands worldwide: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and JCB. Released in November 2013, version 3.0 of the guidelines elevates many of the technical requirements and provides more illustrative guidance on how merchants are to comply.
