PCI DSS, or the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, is a standard crafted by the PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC). Introduced in 2006, the PCI DSS is enforced by the five major payment card brands Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and JCB to ensure the protection of cardholder data acquired during transactions.
Version 3.2 was released this past April, and changes found in the update largely speak to service providers and new responsibilities they have to their clients.
