Calyptix Reveals How AccessEnforcer Fits PCI DSS v3.2

New report shows the requirements met by the Calyptix UTM firewall

How AccessEnforcer Fits PCI DSS v3.2Charlotte, NC. – On the heels of the newest PCI DSS update version 3.2, Calyptix Security Corp. has released a walk-through report outlining the ways in which their UTM firewall, AccessEnforcer, matches the latest requirements found in the new version of PCI DSS.

The report, titled How AccessEnforcer Fits PCI DSS v3.2, is free to download on www.calyptix.com. The report is another way in which Calyptix helps small IT businesses stay up to date on the latest threats and trends in cybersecurity.

“PCI DSS rules can be difficult for IT Service Providers to decipher, and non-compliance can completely destroy a small business under the wrong circumstances. We release this report to remove some of the guesswork from becoming compliant with new requirements. After all, our partners are IT specialists, not lawyers.” Ben Yarbrough, CEO of Calyptix Security said.

PCI DSS, or the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, is a standard crafted by the PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC). Introduced in 2006, the PCI DSS is enforced by the five major payment card brands Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and JCB to ensure the protection of cardholder data acquired during transactions.

Version 3.2 was released this past April, and changes found in the update largely speak to service providers and new responsibilities they have to their clients. Those who are found non-compliant with the standard may find themselves snuffed out by the sizeable fines and litigations associated with ignoring the rules.

One example of how the Calyptix AccessEnforcer UTM Firewall assists small businesses in reaching PCI DSS compliance is its inclusion of Snort, a widely used intrusion detection and prevention system that detects and blocks malicious traffic.

By incorporating Snort into AccessEnforcer, Calyptix lessens the burden on merchants and providers when attempting to comply with PCI DSS requirement 11.4, which states that merchants and service providers must:

  • Use intrusion-detection and/or intrusion-prevention techniques to detect and/or prevent intrusions into the network
  • Monitor all traffic at the perimeter of the cardholder data environment as well as at critical points in the cardholder data environment, and alert personnel to suspected compromises
  • And keep all intrusion-detection and prevention engines, baselines, and signatures up to date.
