CALYPTIX SECURITY PROTECTS CUSTOMERS FROM VALENTINE'S BUG AHEAD OF LEADING ANTI-VIRUS VENDORS
CHARLOTTE, NC – February 14, 2007: Calyptix Security has successfully protected its customers from another new email propagated worm without reliance on static signatures. This worm was first identified as Worm_Nuwar.AAI by Trend Micro on February 13 at an unspecified time. Trend Micro subsequently released a pattern to protect its customers on February 14.
Calyptix Security's AccessEnforcer™ units first captured variants of the worm on February 13 at approximately 4:30 p.m. No other vendors have yet referenced the new variant.
Calyptix Security's customers were protected well before the first variant of the worm was discovered without any need for signature updates.
Calyptix Security utilizes DyVax™, the company's patent-pending signature-less inspection engine, exclusively packaged with the AccessEnforcer brand product line. Using the most recent version of its DyVax software, version 1.3, released on January 9, 2007, Calyptix Security's all-in-one security appliances were immediately able to identify and quarantine all variants of the virus so that no damage could be done to users' workstations or the larger networks.
"The results we are achieving at customer sites with Dyvax continue to validate our laboratory testing and further demonstrate its ability to outperform all leading anti-virus solutions," stated Ben Yarbrough, CEO of Calyptix Security.
Variants of the worm provide subject lines with Valentines-related messages and spoofs the "from" field with numerous names to entice recipients into opening the message to execute the attachment. The worm then compromises the host by installing itself onto the user's computer. The program terminates numerous desktop security processes for anti-virus and other security applications. Variants of the worm captured by Calyptix Security's customers have used numerous subjects including:
My Lucky Valentine
My Valentine Heart
Valentine's Night
Last Night was Hot!
Calyptix Security has ranked the worm as having high damage and distribution potential. No aliases of this virus have been identified.
DyVax was developed and refined by Dr. Yuliang Zheng, a leading international authority in cryptography and network security, and Dr. Lawrence Teo, a widely published expert in Internet security and open source technology. DyVax was created as a cornerstone for building a scalable, world-wide Internet Defense Force™. In laboratory testing, DyVax has proven more successful than the leading commercial and open source anti-virus solutions.
